Is compensation automatically awarded for claims regarding luggage?

Compensation in cases of luggage that is damaged, delayed, or lost is not automatically given. You must, within a tight timeframe, make a claim in writing and attach documents proving the amount of the damage you sustained.

The compensation provided by the Warsaw and Montreal Conventions is not a lump sum, but a liability cap. If the amount of your compensation is inferior to the liability cap, you can only claim the refund of the damage that you have been able to prove.

If the amount of damages is more the amount provided by the liability cap, you cannot claim more than the cap, except if you have filled in previously a special declaration of value form when checking in your luggage.
